A two-year campaign has been launched in England and across Europe in an effort to keep workers productive. The ‘Healthy Workplaces for All Ages’ movement is led by the European Commission, as well as the European Agency for Health and Safety at Work.
With an eye on the ageing workforce, the aim is to shine a light on the need for sustainable work, safety in the workplace and improved health of employees. A healthy ageing process, the organisations believe, allows workers to reach a higher retirement age which benefits the productivity of workers and businesses alike.
The campaign focuses on achieving four main objectives: the promotion of sustainable work and healthy ageing from the start of working life; an emphasis on how important it is to prevent risks throughout working life; arming all businesses and their employees with the tools and information they need to manage occupational safety and health; and to make it easier to exchange information and good practice.
Commenting on the campaign, Director Christa Sedlatschek said: “By focusing on sustainable working throughout working life, not only can all workers better protect their health, but companies are likely to see major benefits too.
“Healthy workers are productive workers, and productive workers are essential to any effective organisation – it’s a win–win situation.”
The drive to promote healthier lifestyles is continuing apace, as catering agencies and food suppliers look to make the most of increasing consumer desire for healthier food options.
